IT Computer Short Course

Information Technology (IT) offers a series of short courses to improve the computing skills of faculty, staff and students. Courses are structured sessions that combine lecture and hands-on practice, focusing on personal, academic, and office productivity. Currently short courses are available in the following categories:

  • Office Productivity

    • Registration for Microsoft Office Productivity courses (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) closes 7 days prior to the training date so that the needed materials can be ordered. Anyone interested in registering for one of these courses should do so at least 7 days before the desired training date.

Computer Based Training

If you are looking for training on Microsoft Products, the University contract with Microsoft has made the Microsoft E-Learning Library (MELL) available for Faculty, staff and students. This free Microsoft training can be accessed from https://mell.umsystem.edu on any Campus owned machine which is covered by the Microsoft Campus agreements.

PeopleSoft Courses

PeopleSoft Courses are not offered by IT but are available for sign-up on the short course registration system. For questions regarding PeopleSoft courses related to the Purchasing system, contact Susan Potrafka by emailing her at susanp@mst.edu. For questions related to the Accounting system, contact the Accounting Office at 341-4189.

  • Microsoft Outlook 2003 

    • This course is an introduction to the basic operations of Microsoft Outlook 2003 for Windows. Learn how to send and receive email, create folders, schedule appointments and meetings, enter private contacts, and create task lists.
    • Prerequisites - Knowledge of Windows XP

  • Microsoft Word 2003 Level 1 

    • This course is an introduction to the basic operations of the Microsoft Word 2003 for Windows word processor. Learn the basics of how to create, edit and format a document. Topics include: entering and editing text, document management, finding help, margins, tabs, line spacing, and text formatting.
    • Prerequisites - Knowledge of Windows XP

  • Microsoft Word 2003 Level 2 

    • Prerequisites - Knowledge of Windows XP

  • Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 Level 1 

    • This course is an introduction to the basic operations of Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 for Windows slide shows. Learn the basics of creating slides, using the drawing toolbar, the clip gallery, using design templates, and producing a slide show.
    • Prerequisites - Knowledge of Windows XP

  • Microsoft PowerPoint 2003 Level 2 

    • Prerequisites - Knowledge of Windows XP

  • Microsoft Excel 2003 Level 1 

    • This course is an introduction to the basic operations of Microsoft Excel 2003 for Windows XP. Learn how to create Excel spreadsheets to manage data. Enter formulas to perform calculations on ranges of cells. Modify the design space to meet your spreadsheet needs.
    • Prerequisites - Knowledge of Windows XP

  • Microsoft Excel 2003 Level 2 

    • Intermediate operations with Excel. Create charts and graphs to display data.
    • Prerequisites - Knowledge of Windows XP

  • Microsoft Access 2003 Level 1 

    • Introduction to database management. Create, sort, query, and manipulate databases.
    • Prerequisites - Knowledge of Windows XP

  • QuarkXPress 7 (Windows) - Level 1

Web Design and Development  Top of Page

  • Documentum Web Publisher

    • Documentum Web Publisher is the campus standard for creating and maintaining academic and some administrative departmental web sites (e.g. College of Arts and Sciences or Admissions Web sites). Students in this course learn how to use the Documentum Web Publisher interface to add new Web pages and manage the site content for a given Web site. Access to this course is only available to authorized departmental Web site content authors.
